As part of my master thesis, I had to study current conventional tumour boards and through the development of a coherent practice analysis, extract core design principles that would be required hypothetically from a Virtual Reality tumour board.
The practice analysis involved attending physical tumour boards at the Freiburg University Hospital, in addition to analysis of online databases of video based online tumour boards. Analysis of the human computer interaction aspects and requirements from a clinician’s perspective were tracked.
The results is a coherent list of 28 design principles relevant to the tumour board in extended reality settings, classified by importance level and necessity for a successful tumour board.
The continued work included conceptualization of a spatial AI-based decision support tool, using clinical Bayesian networks, and implementation of a proof of concept usability study, which can be found here.
